What is your mission?

What is your mission?

My one goal in life has always been to be a writer. I’ve eked out a comfortable existence under the putty-like banner of being a writer, but I know I could be doing a lot more.

But it’s hard to balance passion with profit.

Pursuing passion frequently requires significant time, effort, and resources and rarely results in financial gain. That’s why I’m against “find a job doing something that you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life!”

What a crock.

Humans have a particular set of skills that should be used to make something of a life for ourselves. A job is a job is a job. But it should never be our identity. A job gives you money, which you use to make your identity.

On the other hand, focusing solely on profit might lead to a lack of fulfillment or dissatisfaction, especially if the work you’re putting out into the world is different from your interests or values.

Therefore, finding the right balance between passion and profit is crucial for achieving long-term success and personal satisfaction.

Right now, at this point in my life, I’m satisfied. Maybe there’ll be something to bring the two closer together, but I won’t pressure myself to get to that point.

I’ll get there when I get there.
