“Neville!” Melody called, opening random train doors. “Oops, sorry,” she apologized to her sometime friend Cho Chang, who had graduated this year. She was sucking face with her flavor of the month and recoiled briefly when Melody burst in.

“Ginny!” Melody said after she exited Cho’s car.

“Hey Melody,” Ginny said warmly. “What’s up?”

Her boyfriend Dean Thomas waved to Melody before disappearing into a car.

“I’m looking for Neville actually. Have you seen him?”

“Yeah, he’s with the rest of us. C’mon,” Ginny invited her.

Melody happily followed Ginny towards where she and Dean were sitting. Flicking her eyes briefly around the seats, she felt a little flutter in her chest when she thought she saw Seamus Finnigan’s piercing eyes zero in on her. She looked away quickly.

Neville seemed genuinely glad to see her.

“How are you feelin’ Longbottom?” Melody said gently. His ordeal with Voldemort a few months before had solidified their friendship. The Longbottoms and the Mastersons go way back, as Melody’s dad Gabriel went to school with Frank and Alice, Neville’s parents.

“Stronger every day, Masterson,” he said. “Have a seat.”

As they talked about their plans for the summer and what classes they wanted to take next year, Melody got a distinct feeling that someone was watching her. Mustering up the courage to peek whilst Neville continued to talk, it was Seamus who was studying her. She blushed and looked away quickly. Melody wasn’t in the mood to go chasing after boys so soon after the demise of her relationship with Draco, but Seamus was a good guy.

Melody didn’t know when she fell asleep, but she did.

It was an empty ballroom and soft ballroom music was playing, surrounding her like a blanket. Melody was in a long black dress that showed off her curves (or lack thereof, since she was as thin as a twig). A spotlight flicked on overhead and stepping into its pool of light was Seamus. He looked devastating in a tuxedo, tailored just right. He silently extends his hand and Melody accepts. They lazily waltz to the music that has oddly stopped.

He spins her around and when he pulls her back, Seamus has become Draco. Mel’s heart sinks before she’s caught up in the dance again, only this time with Draco. He spins her around too, but Draco doesn’t change. Her heart is pounding as he holds her close and says, “Melody?”

But it’s not his voice. It was Seamus’ voice!

“Melody?” Seamus’ voice repeats, more urgently.

Melody snapped back to reality. It was a dream, she reassured herself. Seamus, wearing a playful smile, was sitting across from her.

“Oh Merlin, I wasn’t snoring, was I?” she asked. Melody blushed furiously when she realized what she had blurted out.

“Nah,” Seamus said warmly. “We’re at King’s Cross already.”

“Oh good,” she replied, getting up and stretching. She made a move towards the door.

“Hey Melody,” he said softly.

Melody stopped dead in her tracks.

“Maybe I’m being a little pushy, but I was wondering if I could.. write to you this summer? I mean, I know we don’t know each other very well, but…”

Melody blushed. “I’d really like that, Seamus.”

They paused, a little unsure of what to do next, before Anastasia Darcy, Melody’s best friend, came bustling past.

“Oh, Mel!” Anastasia said, oblivious to the fact that Mel was with Seamus. “I left your stuff behind. I’m really sorry, but my mum and dad are waiting for me. I’ll see you in a few weeks, okay?”

“Okay!” Melody said excitedly, leaning over to hug her best friend. “Go on. I’ll owl you in a few days!”

“‘Bye Mel!” replied Anastasia. “‘Bye Seamus!”

“G’bye, Anastasia,” Seamus said cheerfully.

Melody turned to Seamus. “I better get my things. I’ll owl you soon?”

“Not if I owl you first,” Seamus joked, grinning.

Melody rushed away, blushing. She liked the way Seamus made her feel. She didn’t know where it would go with him, but she knew that she wouldn’t have to hide her affection from anyone. That was a nice feeling.
