What is a superpower you’d love to have?

Your monetary support of Writeropolis Industries is much appreciated. Anything you pop into my tip jar goes straight back into the growth of the network. You may find yourself name-dropped in an episode of Raconteuse Radio if you do!

This is a hard one! I’ve always liked invisibility, being able to come and go as I please without having to trade pleasantries with strangers.

I would have to say telekinesis though. I like the idea of being able to make things move around with a thought. I’m literally the laziest person in the world. The least amount of physical work that I have to do to get my desired outcome is the solution that I pursue relentlessly in my everyday life.

One of my favorite mental health tricks growing up was moving the furniture around in my room. Something about it always cleared my brain. I did it a couple of weeks ago and I was hurting for the rest of the day. It took me a minute to bounce back. I’m getting old and I don’t like being reminded that I can’t move as smoothly as I used to when I had my youth.

Not only my own selfish reasons, but my father’s health is deteriorating to the point where sitting up in bed causes him great, physical pain. What I wouldn’t give to be able to move his body for him with my mind.

If I could choose a few others, I’d choose the following:

  • Chlorokinesis because I want to be surrounded by healthy plants all the time.
  • Omnilingualism because I’d love to be able to talk to anyone, anytime about anything. I’d also love to use it to talk to animals.
  • Spider Sense because I’m a klutz and honestly my reaction time is getting bad in my old age, ha!
  • Whatever power Orpheus had when he played his lyre because charming the world with the beauty of music and poetry is always on my mind. I wish I didn’t have terrible stage fright, I’d be a musician. It’s in my blood. At least when I perform poetry, I just have to verbal diarrhea and get away from the mic!

The one superpower I wouldn’t want is the manipulation of another’s free will. Like Druig from Eternals. Or, if you follow the MCU, David Tennant’s Kilgrave in Jessica Jones. One word and you have the power to make someone kill themselves or another person or any other dastardly act that exists. I would hope I’d use it for good… but I could not give you a concrete answer. I don’t want the curse of weighing the ethical and moral approach of my powers.
