The Long and Winding Road: A Global Wanderlust Mix

When I built this mixtape, I challenged my followers on Twitter to inspire it. We agreed on the theme of traveling and wanderlust. Enjoy! it's a small world For obvious reasons, this is the best opener for a mixtape about global wanderlust. We become cynical about the themes as soon as it invades our ears. The idea behind is archaic and dated. But the spirit of the song will always ring true, from 8 months to 108 years. Besides Kris told me to open the mix with it lol. We Gotta Get Out of This Place - The Animals "Now…

French edition of Antigone

There is tragedy in life and death: Antigone vs. Jonas

Life and death are very important themes throughout Jean Anouilh’s “Antigone.” It is made very clear from the very beginning what sort of character Antigone will be. “C’est la petite maigre qui est assise la-bas, et qui ne dit rien. Elle regarde droit devant elle. Elle pense.” Even if you were not aware of the original Sophocles play and either read or saw the play, you would automatically think negatively. To be alone and to be thinking quietly is a sin. You have ulterior motives if you do. True, Antigone did have ulterior motives, but she did them because she…

Slanted Suitcase: Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay

I've been going to the Shark Reef ever since I moved here. So, here's another photo essay to whet your appetite. Sharks!Spiny fishHorseshoe crabOctopusMore sharkKomodo dragon It's always pretty easy to visit, although with COVID restrictions, always check before you go. Tickets are worth the price, but I've always gotten Nevada residents and employee tickets. The perks of living in a tourist town. You could probably spend a couple of hours here if you really wanted to. It's a bit of a walk to get to from the parking garage as well. You might as well enjoy everything else that…

Mise en Place Mondays: Moko Ramen (Las Vegas, NV)

This is a new series that I've wanted to begin doing for my portfolio: restaurant and food reviews. Hopefully, someone out there will get some use out of it! Mise en place is a French culinary term meaning "everything in its place." So it seemed suitable for me, seeing as how I'm marginally French and I love food. Anyway, I plan to post something once a month. Address: 6350 W Charleston Blvd #120, Las Vegas, NV 89146 I came to learn of this place through my colleagues at work. It's located down the street from our office. It's located across…

Maybe He Was Born With It: The Birth of Evil

The source of evil has been a source of inspiration from the earliest literary traditions to even more modern staples, such as film. They range from varied characters such as Grendel’s Mother in “Beowulf” to Dorian Gray from The Picture of Dorian Gray (paid link) and even more recently, through Lord Voldemort from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter (paid link) series. What makes a fictional character evil? There are many reasons and explanations. As shown with Grendel’s Mother, it could be their birthright, being a member of Cain’s kin. Maybe it was his own vanity that made him so, such as…

Sincere Sundays: Poppy, succulents, & homework

Proud of myself for staying on top of this! Poppy Poppy - Am I a Girl? I know I'm super late hopping on the Poppy train, but I really dig her vibe. "I Disagree" is her latest record, but I think "Am I a Girl?" (pictured to the right) is probably her most commercial sounding album. I'll always have a soft spot for "Lowlife" from Bubblebath EP because my boyfriend dedicated it to me once. #corny I like the identity she's created for herself. The dichotomy of fluffy, genderless beauty, frolicking in different genres but graduating to the metal/industrial sounds…

Tips on Relocating Your Life

Moving is an inevitable part of life. Check out some of my tips to consider when you're moving out. Packing the Goods When packing boxes, create a Word doc or Excel sheet and record the items that end up in that box. Label each box A-1, A-2, A-3 (e.g.- kitchen 1, kitchen 2, kitchen 3, etc,) and pop that info next to the list of items in the box. When you need to find something specific, just ctrl-F to figure out which box it is in if you're not ready to open every box.Pack bathroom & kitchen essentials last. Include…

Slanted Suitcase: Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah

I realized it's been a minute since I've shared anything for Wanderlust. Here's a Wayback Wednesday of sorts, a family road trip to Bryce Canyon National Park to celebrate my sister's birthday in July 2007. I low-key kind of love how low-res these pictures are. I took them on a very old, hand-me-down point & shoot camera where the max dimensions were 640x480. I love how technology progresses so quickly. Our overnight family trip to Bryce Canyon National Park in 2007. Admittedly, these were freshened up in Photoshop. But even Photoshop can - and should - only do so much.…
