The Art of Revision

Writing to me has been cathartic, throughout my entire life. There has never been a time when I wasn’t writing. I would write a poem, short story, or similar, and then hide it away from the world because I was afraid of people seeing who I really am. Or I would let my friends see my writing, but of course, their biased opinions never helped me grow. As I got older, I realized that writing is more than therapy for me, I enjoyed it for the artistic process, and I loved entertaining people in my own way. As such, revision was never part of my process before. It never occurred to me that what I wrote should be polished, fine-tuned like a piano, to be something better than what I puked on the page. One of my fears when I first started this program last year was that I wouldn’t…

Send and receive emails through Gmail

Another perusal of my files yielded this tutorial I’d been working on since July 2015. All screenshots and information are valid as of the published date. One of my favorite features of Gmail is the fact that you can send emails from other accounts without having to login to them. I like to have vanity emails for all of my different projects. It helps me to categorize where my mail is coming from for all of my different domains, without having to login to them separately. My fanlisting emails are sent to and from fan@bangingtune.net. Any email sent to fan@bangingtune.net is forwarded to my Gmail account. When I reply to those emails, it appears as though it comes from @bangingtune.net and not Gmail, while utilizing Gmail’s intuitive interface. Furthermore, I have a filter, so that any mail sent to fan@bangingtune.net gets sent to a specific box within Gmail. It automatically…

The Last Witch Hunter (2015)

I saw this movie a few months ago but I forgot I had this review in my files. On the surface, The Last Witch Hunter feels like Vin Diesel playing Vin Diesel in a Vin Diesel film, produced by Vin Diesel. And you may very well come away with that perspective, once you’re through. But if my 1.5 years in my writing program has taught me anything, it’s that the story takes precedence and it’s your job to tell the story to the best of your ability. The premise of the story is something I hadn’t seen before. The Last Witch Hunter is based on Vin’s Dungeons & Dragons character that he has played nearly all his life. I wonder what stats he earned doing this movie. I’m just kidding. I won’t explain the intricacies of D&D because no one has ever helped me learn, but I understand it because…

Inside Out (2015)

I had the pleasure of purchasing the opportunity to see the Fathom Event of Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out via a special link through D23. I saw it on Tuesday, June 16, a full three days before the weekend premiere. I really enjoy Fathom Events. It also helps that I live 6 minutes down the street from an AMC Theatre. The closest one I had in Vegas was on the north side, although AMC took over the old Rave Theaters at Town Square. But I digress. Here is the swag I got… They both will look nice on the wall in my loft alongside my “Avengers: Age of Ultron” swag, which was also a poster and a lanyard. Agent Koenig would be proud. As part of the special event, Pete Docter (who also directed Monsters, Inc. and Up) and the producer Jonas Rivera brought us along on a tour of the Pixar…

Santa Cruz/Capitola

So I’ve unofficially failed at NaBloPoMo. I take full responsibility and will try and post enough to catch up. Prepare for the onslaught! Last week was really hard for me, emotionally. I think that’s why I didn’t blog. I wasn’t motivated. It started fine, just ended messily. I feel much better this week. Agent Carter tonight, whoop whoop. The only saving grace was that I went on a day trip to Santa Cruz/Capitola with my best friend A last week. It was awesome, to say the least. The rides were closed but I just wanted to get out of the city for a bit. Luckily it was the week before A went back to school. I drove Highway 17, my first time doing so. It’s a long and winding road so it’s quite scary whether you’re a driver or a passenger. As soon as we could, we opened the windows…
