Visalia

A few weeks ago, my best friend tagged me in a post on Facebook to attend a junk show in Visalia, California for April 22. I had been whinging and whining at her for a few weeks that I needed a road trip to clear my head. Visalia’s less than six hours away from Vegas, so I figured I’d get out of my routine and go. I booked a cheap but decent room (less than $100) for one night, down the street from the show. I decided to leave the Saturday morning before. Ma was overly protective towards me during this trip. It was seriously an overnight; I needed to get on the road. I figured out why road trips give me life which I didn’t really question until this trip, haha. I grew up in Modesto, which is less than two hours away from Visalia. There’s NOTHING there but…

The Red Shoes (1948)

I fancy myself an armchair movie critic, so I will be reviewing films of all shapes, sizes, and genres with my sui generis perspective. OpenCulture has Martin Scorsese’s 85 films every aspiring filmmaker needs to see. Although I am many years removed from such an aspiration, the critical analysis of movies and filmmaking is something I never stopped doing. I figured I would incorporate a few of them into Silver Screen Sundays as I go along, which I will also call Scorsese Sundays when I review something from his list. I’ve seen quite a few of them already, but not enough! Luckily, The Red Shoes was screened on TCM as part of their Oscar winner series they run annually, and I managed to catch it. The movie won for Best Original Score and Best Art Direction, and was nominated for Best Picture (Hamlet won), Best Original Screenplay (The Treasure of…

Evergreen content is a staple in Internet blog promotion. Evergreen content is content that is always relevant—much like the way evergreen trees retain their leaves all year around. Interesting and relevant content that does not become dated is necessary in order to be found online by search engines. I always try to stay updated on the freshest ways for blog promotion. Not all of them work for me. I have my own ways of doing this but I am open to what others are doing. Listening to another influencer about what works for their blog is like all good advice: glean what you can, apply it to your own situation, and move onto the next. That’s my evergreen advice to my fellow influencers too: never stop learning. You should always want to learn and stay up on your game, whatever that might be. If something works, stick with it, remix…

Brown-on-Brown

You actually have Prince on vinyl Must be a sign of the times His voice washes over me Moaning and groaning in my ear Saunter over the rainbow bridge I’m not there yet Your lips are cold Vestiges of Merlot Electric connection Sensations I didn’t know I could possess Wearing diamonds and pearls Puzzle pieces in the dark Purple rain trickles down the window I move, you move Primal instincts Collective moments on pause Tongue level on expert Make me a controversy You don’t deserve me But I deserve you Volcano of my core Exacerbated by your machinations Leave me, like they all do Forget me, I want you to You can tell me otherwise Around the world in a day.

AWP 2016

March was a blur to me. I lucked out and got 2 weeks off. 1 was spring break, so that was a given. In lieu of class meeting the week after, we had one-on-one meetings with my workshop teacher. I managed to swing it so that I went to the meeting, and then attended a poetry Q&A and reading with Louise Glück, my spirit animal. But it was also a random little Easter break, so my poetry class ended up not meeting again. The last week in March, I had 1 class meeting and then it was AWP. I was afraid of traffic kicking my ass so before the one-on-one meeting, I used my annual pass for the Walt Disney Family Museum and watched the Parent Trap. I love that place. I love that movie. That is all. Louise Glück has numerous accolades to her name, I would run out…
