Autobiography
Last updated: December 29, 2011
I once read a story where the character described what they weren’t, instead of what they are. So here is my lame attempt at Being Haruki Murakami.
I am not a mother. I do not do drugs. I never leave my house without my iPhone. I do not sleep around. I am not a published author. I never get road rage because I am too busy listening to the great music coming out of my car’s speakers. I am not a bitch. I do not talk much but that is because after 28 years of being spoken at, not to, you find ways to cope with injustices in your own way. I never stop the sarcastic remarks that slip from my lips. I am not perfect, no matter how good I make it look. I do not care if a common area mess is there and I did not do it, if it’s in my way, I will take the time to fix it. I do not have the attention span to read all the great books on the two bookcases in my room. I cannot stand strong smells, and I never wear perfume.
I am an American of Filipino descent. I am someone’s favorite tita. I am a daughter. I am someone’s ninang. I am a sister. I got soul, but I’m not a soldier. I get distracted easily. I count up to twenty and back down again obsessively. I take a shower every night. I make movies. I can cook very well. Music is the color of my parachute. I am a casual drinker. When I love, I am cautious. I fumble my words a lot. I live in a cave. You break my heart; I break your neck. I love the Golden Age of Hollywood. I don’t pray as often as I should. All I want for Christmas is someone to share my music with.
