The Black Rose: Girl Groups Through the Ages

OK, I cheated, most of the artists here aren’t “girl groups” in the traditional sense. A lot of them are duets or soloists with more female vocalists behind them. Those were my only requirements for this mixtape. As long as the vocalists were primarily female (rather than female-fronted bands with male musicians), I included them. Absolutely Maybe – Nobody’s Angel All Cried Out (featuring 112) – Allure At Night I Pray – Wild Orchid Baby Love Child – Pizzicato Five Be My Baby – The Ronettes Betcha By Golly Wow – Sugababes Butterfly (Romance Mix) – Cherry Bomb – The Runaways Chick Fit – All Saints Cinderella – i5 Dahil sa iyo – Pinay Don’t Clock Me (featuring the Get Fresh Girls) – Popula Demand Don’t Let Go (Love) – En Vogue Edge of a Broken Heart – Vixen Head Bash – Boo 2 I’m So Excited – Pointer…

Sugamix: The Remixes

I made a mixtape of every Sugababes remix ever & my reviews of each. About You Now (Kissy Sell Out Remix): This song is so perfect on its own, it’s almost a tragedy to try and remix it. I like Kissy Sell Out, even though I think their remixes are hit and miss. I don’t like the one they did for “Song 4 Mutya.” Angels With Dirty Faces (Audio Drive Remix): This could almost be a dub, because there’s practically no vocals in it. Caught in a Moment (D-Bop Radio Mix): Speeding up a ballad is hard, and there are portions where my ears go, “whut?” But I love this song and wanted to include at least one remix of it. I’m trying to track down more, and having a hard time, haha. Change (Wideboys Edit): I’ll be honest, I don’t like the song to begin with. This was the…

The Soundtrack to My Life

When I had a these were the songs that were perpetually on it. I’ve tried to include lyrics that made me stop and think, “that’s me.” Otherwise, it’s the melody that spoke to me. “All These Things That I’ve Done” by the Killers Another head aches, another heart breaks I am so much older than I can take And my affection, well it comes and goes I need direction to perfection “Asleep” by the Smiths Sing me to sleep Sing me to sleep I don’t want to wake up On my own anymore “Breathless” by Corinne Bailey Rae I get so breathless when you call my name, I’ve often wondered, do you feel the same? There’s a chemistry, energy, a synchronicity When we’re all alone So don’t tell me You can’t see What I’m thinking of. “The Chauffeur” by Duran Duran Way down the lane away, living for another…
